© Copyright information

An author, visual artist ©Annalena Saarikivi has the exclusive right to determine and decide on the copying, public display and other use of her artworks. Copyright belongs to the artist even after the artwork has been transferred. The copyright lasts for the lifetime of the artist plus 70 years after their death.

Transaction is a contractual agreement between the copyright owner and the buyer.  This agreement don't include copyright. Selling or transferring copyright would need to be a written, signed contract stating a transfer has taken place. This is known as an assignment.

The owner of a work has the right to display the work publicly, for example in an art exhibition, without the author's permission. Ownership of the work does not give the opportunity to grant copyright permission; permission must be obtained from the copyright holder.  Ownership of the physical artwork is separate from copyright ownership. For example, a gallery may own a painting but not the copyright, which remains with the artist.

Copyright can only be transferred by agreement. The scope of the transfer is determined by the content of the agreement. Copyright remains with the artist unless it has been separately transferred by agreement.

Evidence of ownership in sales condition: For direct sales, the artist asks the buyer to provide their contact information and obtain their consent to store the information.

The artwork may only be used with the author's permission and in the manner permitted by the author.

The author has the inalienable right to receive resale compensation for the professional and public resale of works of fine art.

A few copies of the work may be made for private use. However, reproduction of a work of visual art may not be carried out by an outside party. You can give a self-made work of art to a friend or relative, but you may not resell it. For example, you cannot print images from the artwork at a printing house and use them on postcards for sale.
